Increase Customer Return appointments – with the
Consistency Card.
If your business depends on customers returning to your store (physical or digital) to complete an appointment / obligation to view, test , apply or buy a product or service, the chances are a high percentage of those appointments (more than 50%) are missed when those people simply don’t show up.
A good example is the motor retail industry.
Person goes to a car dealership to see what cars could be available for purchase. After chatting with the sales person on the floor and seeing a few cars, the person decides that he doesn’t have time right now to finish and commits to returning to the dealership at a later date.
This could be for a test drive or to make the application to purchase the vehicle, or to continue viewing potential options.
The sales executive takes down the customer’s details on their CRM system and the person then leaves , agreeing to be back at the agreed date and time.
There it ends.
On the day of the appointment, the sales executive contacts the person to remind them of the agreed appointment , at which time the person backs out of the appointment with some reason or other.
Or , the time comes and goes and the person doesn’t show. Upon telephonic follow up, the excuse reasons are given.
End result – person escapes the commitment.
Enter the Consistency Card.
Principle of Persuasion #4 – Consistency.
Taken from Dr Robert Cialdini’s – Persuasion , the Psychology of Influence – The Principle of Consistency is :
“Looking for and asking for small initial commitments that can be made.”
By filling in the “Appointment Card” themselves and signing it , they have made a small commitment in writing and in public (in front of the sales executive) to meet their appointment time and date.
People like to be consistent with commitments especially those made in writing and in public.
The study showed an 18% decrease in missed medical appointments using this Principle.
The Consistency Card.
Below is a link to the Consistency Card Template that you may download at no charge.
It lists the person’s name, phone number and email address, as well as an example of the types of appointments available , date and time of the appointment and the person whom the appointment is with.
Then it requests a signature to complete the card.
To use it for your business, simple add your logo at the top (where the Izon Logo is) , change the appointment details to suit your business , then print 100 of them and START USING THEM TOMORROW.
I would suggest designing them properly so you present a decent quality card.
If you like, we can do it for you.
Before we get there though, download the (PDF) Template free.
And, you can send this digitally AS WELL!
